A Private Evening with Chef Vartan Abgaryan at the James Beard House NYC!


Chef Vartan Abgaryan will bring his West Coast talents to the East Coast for this private evening at the iconic James Beard House in New York City. This special Inside Access from Chase event is being hosted by Billy Harris of Hanging with Harris as part of his dinner series.   

Dining at the James Beard House is reminiscent of a fabulous dinner party. Upon arrival, guests will walk through the kitchen to meet Chef Vartan Abgaryan of 71Above in LA, and gather in the greenhouse room for a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception, featuring some of Chef Abgaryan’s modern American cuisine specialties including poached oysters with uni and caviar, and BBQ octopus. Following the reception, Chef Abgaryan and his team will prepare a unique five-course menu with dishes featuring kingfish, abalone, and suckling pig for the main course. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet and take a photo with Billy and Chef Abgaryan.

Chef Vartan Abgaryan was formally trained at Le Cordon Bleu, mentoring at the iconic André Soltner restaurant, Lutèce. He served as executive chef at Cliff’s Edge Restaurant to great critical acclaim, including a 2014 three-star review from LA Weekly’s Besha Rodell. In 2015, Chef Abgaryan joined forces with Emil Eyvazoff to debut a new, world-class dining destination 71Above. In 2016, 71Above was named by the readers of Eater LA as the “Hottest Restaurant of the Year.”

For the past twenty years, Billy Harris has been wowing audiences throughout the United States and around the world. His razor-sharp timing and brilliant improvisational skills have made him one of the most sought-after MC's in the business. His award-winning web series, “Hanging with Harris,” has over 125 episodes which feature Billy Harris as he travels the world visiting everything from the finest restaurants to local dive bars.

The historic James Beard House, an 1844 townhouse was home to the godfather of American cookery, James Beard. This house was also where he wrote and taught cooking classes. Now home of the James Beard Foundation, it is considered a performance space for chefs who travel from across the US and abroad. This Beard House program supports the James Beard Foundation mission in educational and advocacy culinary initiatives.

Please note: This evening will showcase and celebrate the cuisine of Chef Vartan Abgaryan at the James Beard House and will include a pre-selected menu. Limited dietary restrictions will be able to be accommodated. Dietary restrictions must be provided at least two weeks in advance of the event. Dietary restrictions provided after October 31, 2017 will not be accommodated. This event is for adults 21 years of age and older.
